Lawrence Raymond Kilty

On Friday, March 21, 2014 Lawrence R. Kilty of Potomac, Maryland. Beloved husband of Carroll V. Kilty; adored father of Carroll A. Kilty and the late Ian D. Kilty; admired father-in-law of Kip Mallahan; cherished Papa of his two grandchildren Drew and Rory Mallahan; dear brother-in- law and friend of Joan and Robert Dail.

Larry grew up in the Black Hills of Deadwood, South Dakota before attending the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. Directly after graduation, Larry went into the Naval Security Group as a Cryptologic Officer. After two years of training in code breaking and related signals intelligence skills, he was assigned duty in the Philippines, Japan and with the Seventh Fleet. Larry then did tours at the National Security Agency and at the Naval Security Group Headquarters in Washington D.C. He later had assignments in Turkey and Scotland and ended his twenty years of service on the Secretary of Defense staff at the Pentagon as a Commander.

After his retirement from the Navy, Larry went into the aerospace industry and ultimately set up his own technology consulting practice, Lawrence Kilty Associates in the Washington D.C. area. Larry lived in Potomac, MD for 37 years and enjoyed playing golf at Congressional County Club with his wife every chance he could. Larry loved living near his daughter and his grandchildren who visited with him nearly every day.

A full military honors graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 3:00 pm.  Please meet at the administration building by 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
