VERONICA A. ROBINSON

Veronica Robinson (formerly Veronica Vercelli), passed away on September 12, 2013, at the age of 88, in Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Ridgefield Park, NJ. Veronica, known to her friends as Ronnie, was born in Paterson, NJ but was brought up and educated in Gilford, County Down, Northern Ireland, before returning to the U.S. where she married Carlo George Vercelli. They lived most of their married life in Ridgefield Park. They had one child, David, who now lives in Silver Spring, MD. Ronnie also was stepmother to Carlo’s son, Carl, who lives in Damascus, PA, with his wife, Lynnda. Ronnie was step-grandmother to five grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Following the death of Carlo in 1994, Veronica married her childhood sweetheart, Edward “Ted” Robinson, in Gilford in 1998, where they lived happily in their Irish bungalow until his death in 2006 when Veronica moved in with her son David in Maryland. Ronnie worked for the Ridgefield Park Board of Education beginning in 1967 where she served as secretary for both the Ridgefield Park High School Athletic Department and the Ridgefield Park Adult Education program until her retirement in 1990. Relatives and friends may call at Francis J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD, on Monday, September 16, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 11 a.m. A Visitation will take place at Vorhees Ingwersen Funeral Home, 59 Main Street, Ridgefield Park, NJ on Thursday, September 19 from 9 to10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis RC Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment George Washington Memorial Park. Of Rockville, MD, died September 10, 2013. She was the daughter of Rev. William M. Finley and Rev. Jeanne Torrence Finley of Blacksburg, VA. Born in Danville, VA, she taught first grade at Bethesda Elementary School, Bethesda, MD. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, David Gagliano and her daughter, Adelina Gagliano. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14 at Faith United Methodist Church, 6810 Montrose Road, Rockville, Maryland. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, at 10 a.m. at Blacksburg United Methodist Church in Blacksburg, Virginia.  The family requests that donations in Anne’s name be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. ROBERT VINCENT SLOAN

Robert Vincent Sloan, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly on September 10, 2013 at the age of 79. Bob was born in Syracuse, NY and attended high school at the Christian Brothers Academy there. He was a graduate of LeMoyne College in Syracuse and began studying for his law degree at Georgetown University and received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore. He began his legal career working at the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, DC for 10 years and then worked at the law firm of Sughrue Mion for 32 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Mary Grace; his four sons Tod (Mary, wife), Kevin (Cecilia, wife), Brian and Tim; and his seven grandchildren Katie, Emmett, Conor, Brendan, Owen, Mathew and Abigail. As a man of deep faith, he was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish in Kensington, MD for 53 years where he served as a lay minister of the Eucharist, a reader at church services and president of the Parish Council.

Friends, relatives and business associates are invited to join the family in celebration of Bob’s life at Holy Redeemer Church, 9705 Summit Avenue, Kensington, Maryland at 11am Monday, September 16. A wake will be held at the same location from 4-7pm Sunday, September 15. JAY JONES

Jay Jones, 48 of Waldorf sadly passed away on Tuesday September 12, 2013 at his residence.

Jay was born on November 12th, 1964 in Silver Spring to the late Joanne and Billie Jones. Jay is survived by a brother and two sisters, and his four children: James, Justin, Kevin and Holly, as well as his late daughter Angela.

Jay started working for Shoppers Food Ware house a year after his first child was born in 1986. He worked his way up and to be a Store Director. Shopper’s is where he met his long time girlfriend who became a part of the family.

Jay was best known for being a family man not only to his own children but many others as well. He had a huge impact on so many people.

Everyone knew where you could find Jay on Mondays and Wednesdays, playing poker with the best of them! Jay loved to play and was a very good player. He won several trophies and even a few spots to play in Vegas!

If you ever listened to Jay talk it was either about his family, his car or poker.

He will be truly missed.

Services will be at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (free valet parking). The viewing will be Thursday September 12 from 2-4 pm and from 7-9 pm. The celebration of Jays life will be on Friday September 13th at 11 am. There will be a wake to follow at a relative’s home nearby.
