On her 91st birthday, Wednesday, January 2, 2013, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Michael Bellesky; mother of Karen Bellesky, Pauline Campbell (the late Edward) and the late infant Nancy Bellesky; grandmother of Scott and Robert Campbell; sister of Marie Butler (the late C. Hank), Richard Judge (Bernadine), and the late James Judge (Ethel). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment private. On Tuesday, January 1, 2013, of Rockville, MD. Beloved daughter of the late Louis B. and Clara Dougherty; sister of Harry Dougherty and the late Eugene, William, and Louis Dougherty. Also survived by 17 nieces and nephews, 40 great-nieces and nephews, and 30 great-great-nieces and nephews. The family is especially thankful for the unending support from St. Elizabeth Church, Msgr. MacFarlane, Patricia McCarthy, Fr. M. Valentine from St. Mary’s Church, and Montgomery Hospice. Of Poolesville, MD, lost her battle with RSD/CRPS and complications of pneumonia on Thursday, December 27, 2012. Cyndi lived for her family, husband of 19 years, Tad E. Cowell “Beaners” and sons, Tad E. “TJ” Cowell, Jr. and Tyler L. “Doodle” Cowell. Other loved ones include mother, Donna Jane McAlister of Roslyn, PA; father, William Edward McAlister of Charlotte, NC; sister, Jessica Davis (Kevin) of Willow Grove, PA, and brothers, Michael McAlister and Robert McAlister of Roslyn, PA. Relatives and friends may call at Our Lady of the Presentation Church, 17230 Tom Fox Avenue, Poolesville, MD, on Friday, January 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., where Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment Monocacy Cemetery. Cyndi was a loving, modest woman. Due to her outgoing and warm personality she was known as “Sunshine” to those who loved her. Cyndi was also known for her easily-identifiable orange mustang that she loved to drive.

Brother FINBARR RAY, S.T.

A member of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, died on December 28, 2012 at Holy Cross Hospital from complications of a stroke. He was 88. A native of Greenville, PA, Brother Finbarr served in the Navy in WWII and joined his religious order in 1950. During the course of his missionary work, he served in rural parishes in Alabama and Mississippi. An amateur but skilled archaeologist, Brother Finbarr had collected many artifacts of early and Native American cultures. His most prominent discovery was that of a Spanish fort on the Chattahoochee River, “a fort among the Apalachicolas – the most northern of the Spanish settlements in eastern North America,” which had remained unrecognized for 250 years. The site was later designated a National Historic Landmark. Brother Finbarr is survived by two brothers and two sisters. A viewing will be held at Father Judge Missionary Cenacle, 1733 Metzerott Road, Adelphi, MD on Thursday, January 3 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Mass will again be celebrated and his body interred at Holy Trinity, Alabama on Saturday, January 5, 2013.

On Friday, December 28, 2012, of Gaithersburg, MD formerly of Aberdeen, MD. Beloved husband of the late Mary Sleeth Paunil; devoted father of Dolores E. Paunil (Ben Lieberman), Douglas E. Paunil (Faith), Daryl E. Paunil (Kathy), and Donald E. Paunil (Jackie); grandfather of Drew, Amanda, Erin, Josh, Ben, and Emma; brother of Gregorio Paunil (Marino). He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Philippine Scout Division of the US Army. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and a former P.O.W. Peacefully at home on Saturday, December 29, 2012, of complications of Pneumonia. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rosanne Geeraert Carney; loving father of Jack Carney, Matt Carney, Jennifer Carney Duncan and the late Tracy Carney Daniel; loving Grandpa of Tommy, Christine and Kathleen Carney, Cush and India Daniel; brother of Virginia Varley and the late Joan McLaughlin. Also survived by other loving family and friends. Jack, an architect and builder designed and built numerous homes in Potomac and Bethesda. Later in life he was involved in the development and restoration of properties in the Harbor Area of Baltimore.
