BERNARD YVES LEPRINCE
Passed away peacefully at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the age of 85. Devoted husband of Mary Leprince (born Amick), he will be sadly missed by his daughters, Chantal Simpson of Ocala, FL and Martine Leprince of Montreal, Canada. He leaves behind his two granddaughters, Stephanie Ann Hall and Gala Wilkie of Montreal, Canada, two great-grandsons, Daniel and Thomas Altenburg, also of Montreal, Canada, as well as his surviving brother and sister in France, Andre Leprince and Yvette Basset. He will be lovingly remembered by many nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces and numerous friends who were inspired by his generosity, his humor, his integrity and his “joie de vivre”.
Born in France in 1926, he emigrated to the Washington, DC area with his family in 1953 where he opened three beauty salons on Connecticut Avenue from the early 1960’s to 1990. With his wife Mary, Bernard devoted his time to his church and to charity, particularly with the Shepherd’s Table, where he voluntarily cut the hair of the homeless for many years. He formed many lasting friendships in his 58 years in Washington and Maryland, yet never forgot his roots in wartime France, writing his experiences during Nazi occupied Paris in a self-published memoir which he shared with many.
