MARGARET MARY ZAHN
On Friday, March 12, 2010, at age 95. Mrs. Zahn, a fourth generation Washingtonian, had a long and rich life filled with the love of her family and her many friends and admirers. Margaret Mary Zahn was the daughter of the late Samuel P. and Nellie A. (nee Evans) and sister of the late Samuel P., Jr., Alice, Luke and Helen Conner. She was the wife of the late George A. Zahn and mother of Rev. George E., Daniel E., John W. (Rhonda), Thomas M. Zahn, and the late Agnes Z. Furilla and Denis B. Zahn. She was grandmother of Denis, Christine, Sean, Bryan and Sondra and great-grandmother of Brian and Christopher. Mrs. Zahn was mentor to scores of people who looked to her for faith, wisdom and courage. Mrs. Zahn began her legendary business career as bookkeeper for George Marshall, founder of the Washington Redskins. From there she continued as a licensed realtor, securities broker and finished this public phase of her life as owner and operator of the famed McLean Market in Northwest Tenleytown. Ever dedicated to her family life all the while, Mrs. Zahn then enjoyed more leisure time, establishing the Shillelagh”s, a tour club that made numerous destinations to international and domestic cities. She was a loyal member of the Auxiliary, Legacy Society and Foundation of Holy Cross Hospital (of which she was a founder), Holy Cross Sisters Guild, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher, Catholic War Veterans, St. Bernadette”s Sodality and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. These were among her principal charitable and community endeavors. Her good humor and strength were an inspiration to all whose lives she touched over the years. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette”s Church, 70 University Blvd, East, Silver Spring, MD 20901 on Thursday, March 18 at 11:30 a.m. Viewing will precede the Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Holy Cross Hospital Foundation, 1500 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
